Dr Simona Cannas will participate in the 4th Annual Meeting of the European Veterinary Congress of Behavioural Medicine and Animal Welfare -EVCBMAW, with a poster entitled “Stress assessment in cats undergoing clinical examination in different experimental settings”. The congress was held in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) from 28 September to 1 October 2022.
Environmental olfactory enrichment could be a useful tool to reduce cat stress during the clinical visit. A reduction of stress in this situation improves the experience for the patient, provides a safer working environment for the vet and reassures the owner. It is unclear from our preliminary results whether environmental olfactory enrichment actually influences the behaviours exhibited by cats during a clinical examination and more data are needed to better understand its influence.
At the same congress will be presented the preliminary results of a project on the phenomenon of “staffette” for the adoption of dogs from Southern Italy to the North. This is a growing phenomenon that seriously endangers the welfare of these animals and often leads to problematic adoptions. The project is in collaboration with the Stray Dogs Association.
