Emanuela graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Milan in 2009, during this period she developed a true passion for scientific research with a particular interest in animal cognition, behaviour and welfare of companion animals.
This initially lead Emanuela into research focused on the welfare assessment of equines, as PhD student of the European Project Animal Welfare Indicators (AWIN) she developed the Horse Grimace Scale (HGS) a pioneering pain indicator.
Since her PhD in Animal Production, she worked at the University of Milan as post-doc being involved in further research improving the welfare of farmed species such as horses, dairy donkeys and pigs.
