Sara Barbieri

Associate Professor

Sara graduated in Animal Production Sciences from the University of Milan in 1999. She then obtained her PhD in Animal Science in 2002. She is currently Associate Professor in Special Animal Husbandry at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and her teaching and research activities are mainly concerned with management techniques in pig farming and the assessment of animal welfare in livestock farming, also in extensive and organic farming systems. He has participated in national and international research projects: among others, most relevant for current research interests he mentions the EU FP7 project Animal Welfare Indicators, the AGER project Green Pig Production Chain, the Porcastro project (Lombardy Region) and the PEI Operative Groups Parsutt (Emilia Romagna Region) and Sustainable Pig Production Chain (Autonomous Province of Trento). Part of her activity is the transfer of knowledge and research results through training and dissemination programs, including participation in the EU initiative ‘Better Training for Safer Food’ in the field of animal welfare.
